Homemade Caesar dressing is one of those things that you’ll never have from the store once you make it from scratch. It only takes a few ingredients and most you probably already have on hand.
There’s only one ingredient that you may need to hunt for, but you must include it in order for your dressing to be the real deal.
Anchovy paste is an ingredient that many people turn their noses up at, but it really is what makes Caesar dressing taste so good. Using the paste also makes it much easier to make the recipe.
You don’t have to spend time pulverizing anchovies to go in your dressing. Anchovy paste is sold in tubes and is easy to work with and measure out.
It may surprise you that Caesar salad was a spur-of-the-moment dish. Created on July 4, 1924, the salad was a mixture of leftover ingredients thrown together by Cesare Cardini in order to feed a mass of American tourists visiting Mexico. The salad was an instant hit and has remained popular for almost 100 years.

Is Caesar dressing the same as ranch dressing?
No. The two are very different from one another. Caesar dressing is a combination of olive oil, garlic, mustard, anchovy paste, mayonnaise, salt and pepper while ranch dressing usually starts with buttermilk and mayonnaise and then has a combination of spices including garlic, onion, mustard, and herbs.
Is there egg in Caesar dressing?
Yes. Even the recipes that use mayonnaise technically have egg because mayonnaise has egg. However, some recipes call for raw egg.
The raw egg is sometimes combined with Parmesan cheese and mustard to create an emulsion. If you’re worried about using raw egg, you’ll love this recipe because it uses mayonnaise.
