Unless you live in Alabama or are a fan of food shows, there’s a good chance you may not be familiar with Alabama White Sauce. In fact, the thought of a creamy sauce for barbecued meats may seem strange.

The old saying goes, “don’t knock it until you try it” which definitely comes into play here. If you’re willing to try something new, you’ll love this recipe.

How did Alabama White Sauce come to be?

Big Bob Gibson is one of the biggest names in barbecue history. During the 1920s, he created his controversial sauce that would go on to make barbecue history. The sauce is mayonnaise-based, but that’s not the predominant flavor.

Thinned down with lemon juice and apple cider vinegar, Alabama White Sauce is a tangy sauce that pairs beautifully with smoked meats.

While it still hasn’t taken the world by storm, those in the know will tell you how amazing this sauce is.
